Here we have a solidly made 5" gauge LMS Fowler Royal Scot. 6109 'Royal Engineer' and coupled to the later Stanier tender. An older model, and one that's clearly been a well enjoyed performer, but is still a long way away from being worn out,.... even if the paintwork hasn't stayed quite as fresh as the mechanicals! Particularly because of the Stanier tender, we are tempted to freshly repaint this one into BR green, to add a bit more value,..... and if she's still for sale the next time we have a few weeks space in the works that's exactly what we will do. But for now, you can have her a bit cheaper to keep our workloads the sane side of crazy!
This is a slide valve loco, so worn in rather than worn out, and we suspect one that promises to have a good solid chuff! She is fitted with an injector, an axle pump and footplate mounted bypass valve and a hand pump in the tender. Lubrication is mechanical and under the front running boards as per usual. The boiler is silver soldered copper, and she can be happily given a fresh 4 year hydraulic boiler test, and an annual steam test so that there are no worries in that department. All in all she's a good, solid beast ready to hit the track again.
